CURRENCY: Euro
The three most popular ways to exchange currency in Greece include ATMs, currency exchange offices, or travelers cheques.
When using the ATM you will be asked how you would like to be charged. Choose local currency so you won't be charged additional fees alongside bank fees.
Only carry what you need. We recommend exchanging no more than $500. Save the card for larger purchases and reserve your cash for smaller purchases like transport, attractions, tips, souvenirs, some meals.
Check with your bank. You may be able to order money ahead of time to be delivered or picked up from a bank in Greece.
Inform your bank that you will be making purchases internationally to avoid fraud alerts while you are gone.
NATIONAL LANGUAGE: Greek (but many speak English as well)
WEATHER The average high-temperature is 77°F and the average low-temperature is 66°F.
TIPPING: A figure between 10 – 15% is standard, but this is dependent on the quality of service. Follow whatever you do in the U.S.
ATTIRE: Light, breathable fabrics. Carry a light shawl or jacket, long pants for cooler evenings and air-conditioned spaces.
If planning to visit any religious places, a strict dress code is expected. No shorts, and women must be fully covered with no skin showing.
Women: dresses, shorts, skirts, jumpsuits, swimsuits for the beach, light pants, short sleeve tops, comfortable walking shoes.
Men: loose-fitting pants, knee length shorts, swim trunks for the beach, light pants, short sleeve tops, comfortable walking shoes.
